HIP Innovation Incubator Fellowship, Summer 2018
In summer 2018, HIP will pilot the Innovation Incubator for one team of students working on a collaborative project.
An 8-week program, the Innovation Incubator will support that team’s project development, with the goal of significantly advancing that concept’s readiness and marketability. Such projects are designed and defined broadly, and the end result may take the form of a marketable product, a creative work for public release, an organization or company, or another form of social innovation.
More information about the program and application can be found here. The online application is open and will close on Sunday, Feb 18th at 11:59pm.
CPGC/Mi3/HIP-Agora Partnership

What is Design Thinking:
Design Thinking is a methodology merging creative problem-solving with design strategies.
"Design Thinking activities are carried on in different steps which are: empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. Within these steps, problems can be framed, the right questions can be asked, more ideas can be created, and the best answers chosen."
-
Designing New Businesses:
We’ve become accustomed to the value of creativity and design thinking in creating new products.
But what about creating entirely new businesses?
How can we collaborate, co-create, brainstorm and play while thinking through more serious issues like the flow of money and the structure of resources?
In this session, we’ll use the Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Mad Libs to learn how to do just that.

Battlecode is a real-time strategy game. Two teams of virtual robots roam the screen managing resources and attacking each other with different weapons. Your job is to write code to strategically manage your robot army and control how your robots work together to defeat the enemy team. Contestants learn to use artificial intelligence, pathfinding, distributed algorithms, and/or network communications to write their player. Teams are given the Battlecode software and a specification of the game rules in early January. The competition lasts throughout the month and culminates in a Final Tournament. During these tournaments, the autonomous players are pitted against each other in a dramatic head-to-head fashion. The final rounds of the main tournament are played out in front of a live audience in Kresge auditorium, with the top teams receiving cash prizes. The total prize pool is over $50,000.

Global Game JamThe GGJ brings together talented individuals from within your community. It is a unique opportunity for people to push their skills and challenge their way of working. Participants work concurrently with developers around the globe; we rally around a central theme, and then have 48 hours to create a game. It's our hope that we will see some very experimental realized prototypes that you can continue to work on after the jam. Many games developed in previous Game Jams have become fully realized games. The GGJ is open source, hardware & software agnostic and all projects are protected under a Creative Commons license. We encourage people to try out new ideas and push themselves, within reason. We also strongly encourage participants to remember to eat and sleep, to stay at their best!
