Day 1:
Day 1:
1) Read the "first letter" below this assignment on the main course Moodle page.
2) In about a week (Day 8), you will need a General GRE study guide. Order “Cracking the GRE with 4 Practice Tests, 2020 Edition”, by Princeton Review. (This book is about $20 new on Amazon. If you wish to save money, you can get a used version and/or any version from 2013 through the present. This purchase also should be covered by LIFTFAR, so save receipts to file in the academic year.) If you wish to find a free equivalent on-line that's fine too. Just adapt the lessons to your choice!
3) Register for the General GRE (within about a week), and plan to take it about one month from today: (this Moodle course lasts about 24 days)
Important notes about your registration:
-
As far as we know, it does not matter which address (home, school or work) you give at registration vis-a-vis where you take the exam.
-
Yes, we think you should take it this soon, even if you are working. The idea is to get it done early enough for a retake if necessary, and to also get it out of the way so you can focus on the physics GRE ASAP.
- Scores are valid for 5 years, so you may take the General GRE as a junior or as a senior or after graduation.
-
Fee reduction voucher:If you qualify for undergraduate financial aid, apply for the GRE fee reduction voucher before taking the test. This same fee waiver can be used to waive graduate school application fees at many universities.Get cracking on asking for accommodations early! Haverford students may also apply to LIFTFAR for financial assistance if you cannot get a fee waiver, but these funds can only be applied for during the academic year so save your receipts if you do not have enough funds on hand.
- Accommodations are available for the General GRE.
- Score Select allows you to be selective about which score you send to grad schools if you take the exam more than once.
4) Click the "Add submission" button, type a note stating you have completed the above (e.g. "Completed"), then click on "Save Changes".
